Are You Ready For Hurricane Season?
Are You Ready For Hurricane Season?

The Atlantic hurricane season started yesterday, and the time to prepare is now. To help agents plan, we pulled together some of our most popular storm season resources and highlights from our preferred providers.

Five agency preparation tips
- Post toll-free claims numbers for all your carriers on your website and social media pages. The Florida Office of Insurance Regulation provides a downloadable list on its website. Remind insureds to always call their company first to help curtail Assignment of Benefits fraud.
- Help your customers understand overages and deductibles by posting and sharing What Insureds Need to Know About Insurance and Hurricanes. Other agent-to-consumer tools, including a Water vs. Wind Damage primer, are available in the Disaster Command Post.
- Make sure you have plenty of printed ACORD Notice of Loss forms on hand. Also, download and print copies of FAIA's Agent's Memo of Loss form. Use of a standard memo of loss is important during the heavy workload and confusion following a storm, especially if your agency management system is down.
- Download and print Hurricane Coverage at a Glance, a visual guide for what is and is not covered under ISO-2000 HO-3 and ISO-91 HO-3 forms. Ensure your team fully understands hurricane deductibles.
- Gather your team and review this list of questions to ask before leaving the office. FAIA's catastrophe volunteers also developed a list of items agencies should have on hand before disaster strikes.
Highlights from FAIA's Disaster Command Post:
After A Hurricane Hits, Mitigate and Document Property Damage
This article includes a flyer to share with your clients. It addresses steps insureds should take after a storm strikes to prevent further damage to their home or business and instructions to document any steps.
Better Safe than Sorry: Submit E&O Claims
Whether an E&O claim is potential or actual, the Swiss Re claims team urges agents to submit all claims that may result following a natural disaster.
Look to Ready.gov for storm preparation tips you can share with your colleagues and clients. The site includes graphics and links that can be shared via social media.
Get a Plan!
FAIA volunteers, team members, and other partners developed an Agency Catastrophe Guide to help agents prepare their business for a hurricane and respond to customers afterward. Download a copy and make a plan for your agency.
